Dimensions

The unit is available in 4 sizes: S (20.5 to 21.75 in), M (21.75 to 23 in), L (23 to 24.25 in), and XL (24.25 to 25.5 in). It weighs just one pound and you will hardly feel it on your head.

Features

This model features a multidirectional impact protection system (MIPS) that provides a class-leading safety. Its inner construction consists of an EPS foam liner and a low friction liner that are divided by an elastomeric attachment. Thanks to this attachment, the foam liner freely rotates around the head. This way, it provides decent protection from potential hazards during the downhill ride. All parts of your head will be equally protected when subjected to an angled impact.

The Giro Ledge MIPS helmet offers a self-adjusting Auto Loc 2 fit system with only 3 adjustment settings. It allows you to tweak the fit on the fly. Thanks to the Vertical Tuning feature, this model can accommodate different types of goggles.

Regarding ventilation, the Ledge has a limited number of vent openings, but they are larger than average. The 2 vents on the front help prevent goggles from fogging, keeping your vision clear. The 4 bents on the top and the 2 vents on the rear allow for free air circulation, solving the sweating and overheating issues. These vents are fixed and therefore cannot be closed. This may be a problem on especially cold days. Nevertheless, the helmet allows wearing thin beanie or buff underneath. The goggle retainer and earpads are removable, so you can clean them.

The Giro Ledge helmet MIPS is compatible with Giro audio systems, as well as with any on-ear or drop-in audio system.

The Giro Ledge MIPS meets the European CE EN1077 standard. This means that it has been successfully tested for compliance with all the basic safety requirements for ski and snowboard helmets. More precisely, does not affect the field of vision, and covers all the necessary parts of the head that can be subjected to impact.

While testing the model for this Giro Ledge MIPS helmet review, I have noticed that the soft foam liner contributes a lot to comfort. The goggles seem securely fixed in place, so you don't have to worry about losing them.

Design

To my mind, the Giro Ledge MIPS helmet design will look great with most snowboard suits as it looks very simple. You can choose from 10 colors (red, titanium, black, olive, etc.). The coating is matte, being made of rugged material.

The model has 9 vents on its surface. The Giro logo is located on both the back and the front of the model. It doesn’t include a visor and has a perfectly round shape.

Conclusion

The Giro Ledge MIPS is a decent model for skiing and snowboarding and isn’t heavy on the wallet. It offers a high-end MIPS safety technology that guarantees both quality and durability. The model also will prevent you from overheating and works with almost any goggles.

It isn’t supplied with bells and whistles like more expensive and advanced models but covers all the basics. Compliance with the CE EN1077 standard makes you feel sure about your safety.
